10AM Update: 08/15/23 Incident at ASPC-Perryville
At approximately 6:30 am this morning, a small bag of a white powder substance was found on a transport vehicle at ASPC-Perryville. The unknown substance was handed to a Correctional Officer who then reported symptoms that included feeling dizzy and light-headed. Out of an abundance of precaution, the officer was transported to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation. Shortly after, seven other staff members reported similar symptoms. We can confirm that four were taken to the hospital as a precaution and three others may also be transported as a precaution. ADCRR can confirm that no inmates have been impacted by today's event and it occurred in a stand-alone administration building that does not house inmates. ASPC- Perryville has since shut down the administration building where the incident took place and an investigation is underway regarding the identification of the substance.
ADCRR is working in conjunction with the City of Phoenix, Goodyear, Buckeye and Glendale Fire Departments. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
