Overview

The Arizona Department of Corrections has come a long way since the Yuma Territorial Prison that was operational almost 150 years ago, paving the way for the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry as we know it today.

We provide housing for an average population of 4,100 convicted male felons at our minimum, medium, and close custody institutions. It is the responsibility of this complex to furnish security, education, and recreation programs for these inmates. We provide high quality security for the public, our employees, and inmates. We are a major employer in the Yuma County area, with 960-full time employees within our workforce. Additionally, we are providers of an inmate work program utilized by members of our local state and community organizations.

Programs

The following programs are offered:

Work Crews

Our facility, in partnership with the City of San Luis, City of Yuma, City of Somerton, City of Wellton, Yuma County, and the Arizona Department of Transportation, operate work programs that focus on vocational training and community improvement. These off-site work crew services are extended throughout Yuma County. Our on-site work programs utilize the inmate population to provide a wide range of support services to our institution.

Education

Our complex provides a variety of programs to enhance an inmate’s knowledge and allow them to become a productive member of our society. The programs offered at our facility include but are not limited to education, substance abuse awareness, religion, and work incentive pay program (WIPP).
